Go Nagai Bio
Go Nagai was born in Wajima City on Sept. 6, 1945. After graduating
High School, he was discovered by master manga/anime creator - the late
Shotaro Ishinomori who took notice of Go-san's work and took him on as his assistant.
His first
big hits came in 1967 with "Meakashi Poli-Kichi" in the Nov. issue of
'Boukra' magazine, and 1968 with "Harenchi Gakuen" (Shameless School),
which caused quite the uproar due to its nudity and poking fun at the
Japanese education system.
Honing his skills under Ishinomori, Nagai developed his own style, and launched Dynamic Productions in 1970,
This marked a new period in manga, for in the span of a couple of years, he was responsible for
pushing the boundaries of manga productivity and good taste (Most of his mangas contain strong doses of trashy
sex and violence). The work that has made Nagai famous began rolling out in 1972. Cutey Honey, Mazinger Z,
Mao Dante, and Devilman. Some of them were developed into very succesful anime series as well. He was also
responsible for giving birth to the giant robot craze(which has become synonymous with anime) with Mazinger-Z.
In 1997, he celebrated his 30th year as a cartoonist. Even today, he is still quite active, (including reprints, 54
works were released between 1990 and 1992).
