Devilman owes alot to Mao Dante. Dante was actually written before Devilman, and was rather popular.
Go-san was approached about developing Dante as an anime series in the early 70's, but asked to tone down certain elements.
The re-working of Mao Dante evolved into Devilman (which is why it is included here). Mao Dante has enjoyed many reprints over the years, but as a result
of becoming Devilman, was never actually finished. The story was finally developed into a series, and released in 2002.
